
The Graduate School of Sogang University attained its license from the Ministry of Culture and Education on Dec. 18, 1967 to further the advancement of scientific theories and their application with an emphasis on cultivating leadership and originality through the pursuit of higher education.
On March 1, 1968, the Graduate School initially opened with three majors in Physics, Economics and History, and ten students, keeping a balance among Humanities, Science, and Economics. Since then, the Graduate School has grown rapidly both in numbers of enrolled students and the majors offered by way of continuously improving the quality of the education offered, and opening new doors for collaborative study and research with other prestigious schools and institutions.
Furthermore, the Graduate School has awarded honorary degrees to those who have attributed to the development of Korean culture and education. So far, honorary doctoral degrees have been awarded to 49 people including Cardinal Kim Suhwan, Prof. Lee Kibaek, Lech Walesa, and Alvin Toffler.
